Our Favorite Authors- October 2020

There’s nothing we love more as writers than cracking open a good book and diving into the world the author has created. Reading other authors’ work can give you loads of inspiration for your own stories and, sometimes, change the way you think about writing.

We’re sharing the authors we are loving right now and recommending our favorite books so you can shake up your reading list. And let us know what you are reading on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!

1. Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie Halse Anderson will always have a spot on our bookshelf. You probably know her for her novels, Speak and Chains, but she has written a full slate of children’s and young adult novels over the course of her career. She has received numerous awards for her writing and is also known for her advocacy of diversity in publishing and limiting censorship.

We love her stories because each piece she writes has a strong and unique voice. If her name wasn’t on the cover of each book, you might not know that she wrote all of them. Anderson’s work is one of the most diverse collections we have found!

2. Lauren Oliver

Best known for her novel Before I Fall and the Delirium trilogy, Lauren Oliver is one of our favorite young adult writers. She has received critical praise for her work and Before I Fall was even adapted for the big screen.

Lauren is one of our favorites because how she captures what it is really like to be a young adult, no matter the specific situation of the novel. When reading her work, you never feel like the characters' emotions and actions are forced. Her work flows together easily, making captivating stories with realistic characters.

We recommend: Vanishing Girls and Panic

3. Jennifer Niven

You probably know Jennifer Niven for her best-selling novel, All the Bright Places, but she has a whole lot more to offer as a young adult writer. Not one to shy away from real issues, Jennifer has published both fiction and non-fiction works covering everything from body image to mental health.

Jennifer Niven is one of our favorites because of her amazing ability to tell stories from two completely different points of view at the same time, captivating you from every side. She also covers topics that are very important and relevant in today's world, especially for young adults and teens. If you check out her work, you will definitely need a box of tissues on hand!
